After the jump check out the trailer for new documentary "Finding Joe"

“Finding Joe” a new documentary which takes a look at Philosopher/Mythologist Joseph Campbell has a new trailer which can be seen below:

Joseph Campbell was a professor at Sarah Lawrence College for 38 years. His seminal work, “A Hero with a Thousand Faces” was published in 1949 and greatly influenced generations of artists and writers, including Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison, Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, Jerry Garcia and others.

Rooted in deeply personal accounts and timeless stories, Finding Joe shows how Campbell’s work is relevant and essential in today’s world and how it provides a narrative for how to live a fully realized life—or as Campbell would simply state, how to “follow your bliss”.

The film features interviews with visionaries from a variety of fields including Deepak Chopra, Mick Fleetwood, Tony Hawk, Rashida Jones, Laird Hamilton, Robert Walter, Robin Sharma, Catherine Hardwicke, Sir Ken Robinson, Akiva Goldsman and many more.

Too prepare for tonight's episode of Psych check out our interview with Creator Steve Franks below. Much like last week’s interview with Roday and Dule, Franks spilled some details on the season and talked with me about our shared love for Disney shows, all while keeping things hilarious.

So what did everyone think of last week’s season premiere of Psych? Personally I loved it, it had some incredibly hilarious scenes, but also had some of the tensest moments of the series, specifically when it looks like Shawn’s been caught and faces Lassiter and the lie detector. Although, it wasn’t too much of a surprise to know that Henry had taught Shawn how to defeat a lie detector.

Having seen two of the episodes coming later in the season (specifically the vampire themed Halloween episode which airs in 2 weeks and William Shatner’s episode) I can say that this season is looking pretty incredible and you’re not going to want to miss a single moment of it. And I am definitely looking forward to tonight’s Hangover inspired episode!

Too prepare for tonight’s episode and the rest of the season check out the interview with Creator Steve Franks below. Much like last week’s interview with Roday and Dule, Franks spilled some details on the season, while also keeping things hilarious.

Q: Is there a confirmation for Season 7, I was just wondering, because James Roday alluded to the seasonal finale of Season 6 having a big cliffhanger. So if there wasn’t a Season 7, would you conclude that in a movie or something like that?

Steve Franks: When we were finishing up the season finale, we had something big planned that we didn’t think work well enough and something we sort of saved. And as we looked at the way the story is developing, along the course we found like a really, really cool cliffhanger. And we ended up shooting that as our finale.

So if we didn’t get a Season 7, I think we could create a situation where fans would want a riot on Wall Street as well. So it was only after the fact that when I watched it, I’m like “Oh my God. There’s no way they can’t pick us up for a Season 7 now.”

I’m always thinking about the movie. And actually, when we go in to talk to the executives I don’t know if it would be on the table. But I have not only a way we could do the movie, but I have sort of the world and the story of it.

So I would want to do a Season 7 and a movie. That would make me happy. And I want to make sure if we do the movie… I’d want it to be something that was in theaters… not just do a direct to video, you know, like double episode of the show. I’d want it to feel special. I’d want it to feel like it was something that was worthy of being in the theaters. I think we have something that’s really fun.

Q: How do you feel the Internet has affected your show and your writing, especially with the new Hashtag Killer game?

Franks: As for the Hashtag Killer, it’s incredible. I can’t believe the numbers of people. And Lynn has them. We’re shocked and amazed and excited. And, you know, at first, you know, it seemed like it was just, you know, hey, here’s something that can get people to remember that you have your show, you know, that you’re coming back because we’ve been gone for ten months.

But it really turned into something fun and the people that worked on it, they did an incredible job of making it more than just, you know, a point-and-click game. Because when they first explained it to me, I’m like, “I don’t understand this at all, you know. We get to talk to the – how are they going to talk to people, you know.” And I didn’t understand the format of it. And this – you know, through a lot of meetings, I’m like, it soon became very clear, oh this just like our show, but it actually puts everybody in the middle of it.

And I’m like – and then I said, “Okay, well there’s no way we pull this off.” But I brazenly went along the ride… And, you know, it’s amazing the response we’ve gotten. And I kind of wish that I didn’t know the solution to it so I could play, too, because it seems like it’d be a lot of fun.

Q: Can you give us a hint of what we’ll see when Pierre reunites with Shawn and Gus in the Raiders of the Lost Ark episode?

Franks: You know every time Cary comes up, we know it’s going to be the most fun we’ve had during the season. [T]here’s always been like a little action element to the Despereaux episodes. In the first one, it was the ski chase. And the second one, it was hanging the guy off the building and the Batman special effects things, and the shoot-out at the cabin. And this time, my goal was let’s just get to those action pieces and let’s do more than we ever imagine this show could do.

So there are some – it’s just, it is a thrill ride beyond anything that we’ve done. It’s really fun. It’s really fast. And there’s some truly shocking moments in the show, along with some spectacular stunt pieces and Despereaux at his most fun, and Shawn cracking a whip and doing all the – and most importantly, me, fulfilling all my childhood fantasies and getting to sort of riff on my favorite movie of all time.

Q: I was watching the pilot last week and noticed you had references to both Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Phineas & Ferb. Are there a lot of writers on the staff with kids?

Franks: About half of us have kids. This is a great thing about this show. First of all, I’ve kept almost all the same writers. I think we’ve had five new writers in the history of the show. And usually it’s [because] we’re expanding it. So over the course of our show, all of our writers have had kids and have bought houses. So we’ve all like sort of become adults. So we’ve all become saddled with mortgages and grown up to take care of our kids. But, yes, there is – let me tell you, nobody watches more Mickey Mouse Clubhouse than I do. Maybe we should have a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse competition.

And Phineas & Ferb is the one that I enjoy the most because I think that show is so funny and so smart. And we have things called room jokes, which are jokes that we think only are funny to the writers, and that it more reflects on the process of writing. But Phineas & Ferb gets away with more room jokes than any show I’ve ever seen on TV.

I’m also a fan of Jake and the Never Land Pirates. I think it’s not too bad to watch. And – but I am glad that I don’t have to watch as much Special Agent Oso as I used to because, really, honestly, Oso is an incredibly incompetent agent. Because he doesn’t even know how to tie his own shoelaces. So I mean that bear has no business taking on all these multimillion dollar gadgets and doing spy missions and flying in the space when the guy can’t even tie his own shoes.

You know what, you know my one rub against Jake and the Never Land Pirates is at the end, they collected the doubloons and they go into their treasury chest. But every time you see the treasury chest, it’s neither more full or less full than any other episode. So I don’t know what they’re working towards. And that you know what, that’s one of those little details that you probably should have worked out before they started it. And then if the show runs seven years that treasure chest is almost full. So at some point, they’re going to have to get another treasure chest or they’re going to have to use some of the doubloons from the treasure chest that they’ve been filling up each episode, and buy something.

Q: You guys have a ton of guest stars this season. How do you get all these amazing actors? Do you approach most of them or do any of them approach you about being on the show?

Franks: I have three lists. One of them is people we’ve heard are interested in doing our show. People we’ve heard that are fans of the show. And then we – which we sometimes find out through Twitter or we find out through our casting director, Julie Ashton. And then sometimes, then there’s no list of people we’ll never get in a million years, but let’s just keep them on the list. And that’s like David Bowie and people like that who don’t act much and all that.

And then there’s also people that we – and that usually how it happens is, you know, we basically – our casting director puts out, you know, a breakdown for a character. And then we get the list of available actors. And then we’ll go to them and sometimes their schedule won’t work. They’re working on something else. Or sometimes the dates won’t work or the time or maybe they’re – they don’t want to play the killer or they, you know, they want to do something differently. But we keep a very well-documented list of people who’ve ever said when we asked them if they want to be on the show, “Oh I like that show. I watch it with my kids. Oh I like that show. My wife and I watch it.” And we make sure that we go back to them.

And like a lot of the people – you know, Malcolm McDowell who’s in the premiere episode, he was originally going to be Yin last year. And he had – the dates just didn’t work out. He had a wedding reception that night. And he was actually on the move – he was going to move something and we’re like, “You know what, Malcolm, we will get you back.” And fortunately for me, he happened to be in my episode and he was so good. He was so good in it, you know.

And Shatner who comes up later in the year, we’ve always wanted to have Shatner on the show. We call all the time and finally he was available. And we had a really wonderful idea and a great script. And he jumped at the chance.

So it’s a lot of, you know, just keeping our ears to the ground. And as the show goes on, you know, our – we know that, you know, you got to fly up to Vancouver to be on our show. So we know that we have to offer something to the actors. And our guarantee – this is what I said to Malcolm McDowell in the first day. I said, “This isn’t the most fun you’ve had at least” – and Malcolm McDowell, it’s hard to say this is the most fun you’ve ever had because Malcolm McDowell’s had a lot of fun.

So to me, you know, I would say if this isn’t one of the most professional – fun professional experiences you’ve ever had, then we’ve done our job wrong. And we make sure we have a very open and fun engaging set, and that everyone is on the show has a blast. And we just say tell your friends. And whereas in Season 1 and Season 2, you know, it’s always like, “What? Which show? Psych? What is that? I’ve never heard of that?” Word has gotten around. And so it’s a lot easier to get people. And for us, it’s, you know, we treat them well. We give them great roles. And that’s paid off.

So it’s a multi-pronged approach. Paying attention, having people have heard of our show, making up our dream list of actors and having a great casting director who really thinks and really is creative and smart – and Julie Ashton is such a great person just to be around and she’s also kind of genius as a casting director.

Q: Do you have an idea for what the final episode of Psych would be?

Franks: I think I have something really good. And I think I have something that ties things together and brings us right back to the pilot in a great way. And I think that a good ending to a show, you know, resolves the question that’s posed in the pilot.

And I don’t know if I’m going to be the only one who loves it. But I have it. And I’ve never told anyone. So it has to stay in my head because Chris and Kelly, our other executive producers, are not great secret keepers. But I have a great way that I’d like to do it. And I like to – and I love when shows wrap themselves up that they, you know, that they bring everybody back and they sort of tie up all the loose ends. And it would be really nice if we have the luxury of knowing what the end of the show is and to be able to work towards that.

Q: I heard two different things from you and Andy Berman about the Clue episode; is it definitely off?

Roday: It is not off, it’s just not a part of our 6th Season. It’s still very much in the hopper and all of the key players are still committed, we just weren’t able to shoot it this season because of various scheduling conflicts. But it’s on tap for next season — knock on wood — probably the first or second episode.

Q: Besides the Clue episode, I hear there is also a vampire themed Halloween episode, an Indiana Jones inspired episode, and a Cuckoo’s Nest inspired episode, can you tell us about these?

Roday: Yes, we did in fact deliver on those other ones. Those are in the can. Those are fully produced and being mixed.

Hill: We also have a Shining episode this year too.

Roday: Shining is what you get in place of Clue. So we still felt like we should swing big. Halloween is the vampire episode. And I think it’s airing the week of Halloween. [It guest star] Kristy Swanson, the original Buffy, and Corey Feldman, one of the Frog Brothers from The Lost Boys, and Tom Lenk, a regular on Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV Series. We went Double Buffy.

Hill: And Blacula makes a guest appearance also.

Roday: Guest appearances, Blacula and the Vampire Lestat.

Q: I’m wondering if you can tell me a little bit about the Joey McIntyre episode?

Roday: That was our Superhero episode. There’s like a vigilante superhero like combing the streets of Santa Barbara, cleaning them up one bad guy at a time. And it may or may not be Joey, we don’t know.

Q: You guys are embarking onto some new territory with the Hashtag Killer, how do you guys feel about embarking on that new territory?

Hill: I think it’s fun. I mean obviously, you know, that whole interactive and social network stuff is a big part of today’s society and our fan culture, so anything that we can do to engage them some more and keep them interested in our show, I think is a fun journey. And it’s something different. And I hope people are enjoying it. I haven’t had a chance to play it myself yet, but it seems like it’ll be a fun thing to play.

Q: What’s your favorite Psych-Out that you’ve done? They all seem like so much fun, but what’s your favorite?

Hill: For myself it would be either the one we did with Joey, which because when you start involving real, you know, musicians and real singers and real artists singing their own songs with you, you can’t really top that. It would be the one that we did with Joey, and then it would be the original one that we did in the pilot, Man in the Mirror, because that’s kind of what started the whole machine going with the Psych-Outs. And that was just really just Roday and I having a lot of fun off camera. And then we got to the final shot just, “You know what, let’s put it on tape. Let’s just do it.” And it turned into this whole big Psych-Out phenomenon so.

Roday: Yes and in the spirit of doing Psych-Outs with the original artists, I’ll mention a drunken rendition of Head Over Heels that we did with Chris Smith.

Q: If you could have any crossover with whatever show, which would it be?

Hill: USA Network, I would want to do White Collar. I mean, that’s on the air right now, I would say White Caller, a show that was off the air, I would still go back to Monk.

Roday: Well if it’s any show I would say we should crossover with The Walking Dead because I think we’re due for a zombie episode.

Hill: For myself I would say if it’s any show I would say, “Modern Family,” because I just love the show so much. And I think it would be fun to have Shawn and Gus interact with all of those characters over there.

Q: Tell us a little bit about what it was like working with William Shatner.

Roday: Unbelievable.

Hill: Right.

Roday: The man is – I mean he’s an icon obviously but watching him work was an honor in and of itself. I mean he’s a machine. He was totally invested. He had – and I say this – this is not me editorializing or exaggerating, he had the heaviest load that we’ve ever given a guest star on our show. He pretty much drives the entire episode. He had the same schedule as Dule and I. And it was just remarkable. I mean not only did he know everything, he had questions, he had thoughts, he had concerns. You know, he was modulating his performance and he just – he really, really wanted to knock the role out of the park. And then to top it off, when the weekend came and you know, and Dule and I basically beach ourselves and recharge our batteries so that we can get back to it Monday morning, (Bill), flew to Calgary and did two live shows on Saturday and Sunday, and then flew back to Vancouver and was back at work at 6:00 am Monday morning. The man is 80 going on 20. And like I said, “It was humbling and it was a really honor just to watch him work and pick his brain and be around him.”

Q: So now that Shawn has Juliet, now Gus is all by himself. Is he ever going to have a longer relationship than like an episode or two?

Hill: I think we’ll have to see what happens in Season 7, but in Season 6 he makes a valiant effort to attain that. He goes for it. You know, you can’t blame Gus for trying in Season 6, he’s actually throwing his hat into the ring and he’s out there, you know, really trying to make it happen. But we’ll see what happens going into Season 7, maybe he’ll get past the one-episode love interest then.

Q: You have a whole bunch of themed episodes, is there something you really want to do that just hasn’t happened?

Hill: Well I know Steve Franks has talked about it for a couple of season now and it hasn’t actually happened yet, but I hope that in Season 7 we can actually make the musical episode happen. I mean, that’s how I started in the business, doing musicals, so it would be great to bring that to Psych and be able to sing and dance in an episode, and not just in a Psych-Out.

Roday: Agreed, yes I think that’s kind of the pinnacle of theme episodes that we’ve yet to do. So that’s the big apple that hopefully we’ll be able to slice up and feed to all of our fans.

You know it’s tricky, it’s not something that you could throw together. You know, other shows have tried it to varying levels of success and I think because Steve has such a love for music, you know, his band sings our theme song, it’s really important to him to hit a homerun with it.

And I think that’s why there’s been a little bit of Indian giving in the past, because you know, he realizes – I think it really hit him this past off-season, like just how much work it’s going to take to do it right and that’s why he postponed it. But I think he’s committed and I expect it to happen next season.

The good news is, look he’s got a game cast and you know, he’s got his own band and they’re songwriters. And you know, it’s just a matter of putting in the time and you know, we should be able to execute.

Q: Since you just wrapped, is there anything you can dish about the season finale, is it a cliffhanger?

Roday: Yes, there’s – that is fair to say. There is a shocking ending that I hope our fans will not soon forget.

“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is one of the best movies of the summer and delivers everything that Tim Burton, Mark Wahlberg couldn’t in 2001’s “Planet of the Apes”, and characters we care about.

James Franco plays Will Rodman, a genetic researcher who is obsessed with pushing for a drug to get to human trials that will repair brain cells and lead to a cure for Alzheimer’s. All the analysis is ready for the pitch to the board of directors with Bright Eyes, the ape subject as the closing case. When Bright Eyes gets super aggressive, everything is shut down and the research apes are to be put down. Will finds a baby ape that he takes home for a few days before he can get it into a sanctuary. The baby’s mother was Bright Eyes. The baby is named Caesar and when Will sees he had his mother’s genetics and intelligence from the drug passed on to him, Rodman keeps him for years.

Will and his father Charles keep Caesar under wraps. Will meets Caroline (Freida Pinto) and brings her into Caesar’s life. Caesar’s intelligence expands at a rapid rate, more than human counterparts.

Will doesn’t win any awards for ethics in this film and he obviously isn’t paying attention to any films about the dangers of experimenting with nature. Things happen that separate Caesar from Will that land him in an animal sanctuary with other primates.

Everything builds in this film in a gradual way. At first it’s just a story of a boy and his monkey, then it starts to turn dark, then it goes bananas.

The star isn’t Franco or Pinto but Caesar himself. It’s Caesar’s story. It’s Caesar we care about. Caesar is CGI and brought to life by Andy Serkis, the man who gave us Gollum.

I remember watching Burton’s “Apes” and at no point is Wahlberg freaked out about where he is or what he’s doing. It was one set piece to the next. This film is the complete opposite. There is sufficient set up that leaves us to care about these characters and what happens to them. The action in this movie is great but it is in the climax. There is very little action for the first hour of the film.

Rupert Wyatt has done an excellent job as director. I can’t comment on anything he’s done because I have not seen any of his films. We will be hearing more from Wyatt because “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is going to be a huge hit this weekend.

This week’s home video offering feature 1 Brilliant Doctor, 1 Mind Altering Drug, 1 Super Secret Team of British Investigators, and 1 Night of Partying.

Doctor Who Season 6.1

The First half of the current season hits stands today. This is great for those fans without access to BBC America, who don’t want to get it through illegal means. The season kicked off with a two-parter which set up much of the next season, as well as raising many questions that remain to be answered and casting doubts on some events from last season. A great half-season and a must see for fans.

Limitless

Bradley Cooper proved his strength at this box office with this tale of a hopeless loser who’s life is turned upside down after he takes a pill which allows him to use 100% of his brain. At first the effects are amazing ,as he becomes rich and successful almost overnight, but soon he’s drawn into a conspiracy that could cost him everything.

Also be sure to check out http://www.areyouonnzt.com. If you allow the site access to your Facebook it will create a unique video tailor-made for you about how great your life can be on NZT, the drug from the film.

Torchwood

The British series, which just launched it’s 4th season on Starz, follows a team of Brits dedicated to searching out the weird, wild, and alien. (It’s also a spin-off of Doctor Who). The first two seasons are very uneven, at turns brilliant and unwatchable. Thankfully leads, John Barrowman and Eve Myles keep audiences invested. But it’s season three, the mini-series Children of Earth, that makes Torchwood a must see. Although extremely dark, Children of Earth is one of the best series to hit TV screens in years.

Take Me Home Tonight

Topher Grace stars as Matt Franklin, a MIT graduate stuck in a dead end job at the local video store. When his dream girl, Tori Frederking (played by Teresa Palmer, the more beautiful, more emotive version of Kristen Stewart) comes back to town, he get caught up in a lie to impress her. Now he’s got until the end of the last big party with all his high school friends and enemies to show her the true Matt, and maybe figure out his future as well. Take Me Home Tonight features a wonderful 80s soundtrack and an amazing cast which includes Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, and Chris Pratt. This one was overlooked in theaters, but it definitely one you want to have on your shelf.

I did not see “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” for almost two weeks after its release. I saw the first two films on opening day. I loved the first one. “Revenge of the Fallen” was such a colossal disappointment on almost every level. There’s no way a film that made billions of dollars is going to retool to make a better third film right? Wrong. “Dark of the Moon” gives us shades of black that we have not seen in the previous two films that remind us why we liked them in the first place.

I had a good feeling when I went to get my ticket and the guy behind the counter was singing Outkast’s “Hey Ya.”

“Is that Outkast?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said.

“Great song, is Transformers any good?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said.

“Is it better than the last one?” I asked.

“Oh it’s way better,” an usher busted in.

I had a good feeling going in that this would be an improvement.

At 157 minutes, “Dark of the Moon” is at least a half hour too long. The first hour feels like it doesn’t know where it’s going or what it wants to be. This could have been tightened up and utilized better. Think of everything Christopher Nolan was able to show us in the setup hour for “Inception.” “Dark of the Moon” is no “Inception” therefore it should be easier to explain what is happening.

The script by Ehren Kruger is light years away solo then the collaboration on “Fallen” with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. That script was terrible but there was a writer’s strike going on and Michael Bay had a release date to make. Things happen. Kruger seems to bring the sensibilities from films like “Arlington Road” and “The Ring” to bring us a darker Transformers film.

There was a cover up during the moon landing because of a ship that crashed there and what was found. That cover up will come into play in the film in a big way as we find Sam Witwicky, Shia “I’m Friends with Speilberg” LaBeouf who has saved the planet twice, like most of America, unable to find a job. His life isn’t all-bad though. He ditched Megan Fox and has a new beautiful exotic girlfriend Carly, Rosie “I won’t be a problem like Megan Fox” Huntington-Whitely. Her boss is super smooth McDreamy Dylan, played by Patrick “Can’t Buy Me Love” Dempsey. Mr. Chang himself Ken Jeong has a few scenes early on. I think it would have been great if he were in the film as Mr. Chang doing drug deals with the Decepticons. John “Coen Regular” Turturro is also back as Ex-FBI Agent Simmons. This movie even has John Malkovich as Sam’s boss. Why not just have the Coen Brothers direct the film?

Frances “Mrs. Coen” McDormand was Mearing, a top intelligence official who is eager to sell out the Autobots since they’ve done nothing but save the day for two films now. It’s kind of like there’s always someone not wanting Jack Bauer involved.

The stuff on the dark of the moon is paramount to the plot and I won’t divulge what goes on. There are some crazy robot betrayals in this film. That’s what is great about this movie. It ups the robot moments. We have more robots and less of Sam’s parents. I feel more emotionally onscreen for the Optimus Prime and Bumblebee than I feel for any human in the film.

This is vintage Michael Bay. There are great sunset shots like we’ve seen in “The Rock” and “Armageddon.” There are nice slow motion sequences like “Pearl Harbor” and “Bad Boys.” There are shots of beautiful women, which Bay always gets into the cut. This feels more like Bay’s film than the previous two. I guess when you make the studio so much money; you have a bit more creative control.

I did miss Megan Fox’s Mikaela and not for obvious reasons. Her character had this edge and toughness to her. Mikaela’s replacement is too much of a damsel in distress for most of the film.

“Dark of the Moon” feels more Sci-Fi than the other two films. The damage the Decepticons bring is incredible and you feel like they’re going to be able to destroy the world. The humans and their automatic weapons are just outgunned in this one.

“I’ll tell you a secret. The last act makes a film. Wow them in the end, and you got a hit. You can have flaws, problems, but wow them in the end, and you’ve got a hit.”-Robert McKee, “Adaptation.”

Though the film is too long and there is a lot wrong with it that could have been fixed by an editor or Michael Bay, the climax saves the day. That last action sequence is bold and offers us things we haven’t seen before. The music and the sunset shining off the characters’ faces are visually stunning. Oh yeah and there’s robots fighting and destroying a city while doing it.

“Dark of the Moon” proves that three is the charm for some franchises.

Leslie Knope is getting a book deal. The book is “Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America.” The book will be written by the perspective of “Parks and Recreation” star Leslie Knope along with an introduction by Amy Poehler. Knope is the Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation Department for Pawnee, Indiana.

The book will include illustrations, photographs, and other characters’ commentaries, and will hit bookstores on October 4, 2011. Each chapter will examine a different aspect of the fictional town’s history like the time when the whole town was on fire, the town’s long list of ridiculous town slogans and the ongoing raccoon infestation.

Knope will provide insight into the Midwestern town.

“If you like small towns with big ideas, this book is for you!” said Poehler. “And here’s hoping that Indianapolis will play Pawnee when they turn this book into a movie!”

“The ever-expanding town of Pawnee has become its own character in our show, and we’re thrilled that we got to accelerate that expansion in one giant, goofy 240-page comedy book,” said Mike Schur, co-creator and executive producer of the series. “It’s a complete portrait of Everytown, USA, which every reader — whether a fan of the show or a newbie — can enjoy.”

“This book is such a fun read, you’ll be smiling page after page. It’s a snapshot of small town, America filled with laugh-out-loud historical remembrances and local tributes,” said Kim Niemi, Senior Vice President, NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group. “Here’s to Leslie Knope for capturing the spirit of Pawnee for readers everywhere.”

Of the deal, Hyperion Books editor Matt Inman said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be publishing ‘Pawnee,’ written by some of the most talented writers and actors working in television today. “Pawnee” is an absolutely hilarious look at one of America’s great small towns. Both ‘Parks and Recreation‘ and Amy Poehler fans will love it.”

The book will be released on October 4th.

I have only seen “Titanic” once. I don’t remember over half of what happened in that movie and I have to blame a red headed woman for this incident. I’m a big James Cameron fan. I know “Titanic” is not “Terminator”, “Aliens” or even “True Lies” but he was my favorite director when I was 17 years old. I had been a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio for years starting with “This Boy’s Life.” So how did I lose all focus during one of the biggest movies of all time? It’s not hard to imagine that a beautiful woman gummed up the works.

It was late December in 1997. It was blisteringly cold, the kind of cold that makes you get out of your car and make a run for it. As I got out of the car, this beautiful 40s-ish woman mentions to me how windy it is. I said something about the weather. I didn’t say anything brilliant nor am I a meteorologist. Basically, “Yeah, it’s really cold.”

“You going to the movies,” she asked.

“Yeah,” I said.

She had red hair at should length, emeralds for eyes, dressed in this killer leather jacket and black jeans. We talked all the way through the cold and on into the building. We talked about movies we’d seen lately. She was going to “Titanic” too and asked if I wanted to sit with her and her friends. She was trying to save seven seats for one of the top grossing movies of all time. I did what I could. I probably took off my shoes in order to stake a seat as mine. I helped her out. Seats saved.

“What’s your name?” the woman with the killer leather jacket said.

I told her my name and everyone there knew my father. My father used to do their taxes and they thought he was really cool. My dad? What? My dad was 47 at this point so the woman had to be in that ballpark. She said her son had just graduated from the high school I was attending. This woman with her looks that could kill and boldly outgoing personality, I was taken aback. She wasn’t like any of the girls at school. That’s for sure. She’s gorgeous and loves movies. What else could I ask for?

She sat next to me amidst all of her friends. “Titanic” is already super long and let’s be straight, it’s not as good as “Terminator” or “Aliens.” In the best situation, I’m going to struggle with this story. Now I’m in a situation where this beautiful cherry bomb is sitting next to me in this leather jacket. This is something out of “The Graduate.” I completely felt awkward and had no idea what I was doing just as Ben Braddock did.

Even when the ship is sinking, I couldn’t get over this woman next to me. I know we’re just watching this movie but it felt rebellious. It felt dangerous. It was a bigger thrill than anything happening to Leo.

The movie ended. Our moment was over. That’s how it goes doesn’t it. I recognize her around town every once in a while now. She’s usually talking to someone. I’m 30 now so she’s around 60. I saw her in the parking lot a month ago at Dillard’s and she was making sure her car was locked.

“I have to make sure it locks, I get OCD about it,” she said as her car honked multiple times.

“I’m the same way,” I said. “Better to be safe than sorry.”

We talked all the way going into Dillard’s but I didn’t mention “Titanic” and how she was more thrilling than Leo and Kate Winslet trying to survive. Maybe I’ll run into her again and I can tell her about her mythological status and the legendary leather jacket.
